One of my New Years resolutions is to start cooking and entertaining more at home. I’ve always loved to entertain (random fact – I was voted “Most Likely to be the Next Martha Stewart” in college!) There’s something so nice about an intimate gathering that includes good food, good wine, and great company in your own home. Somehow between constantly traveling and eating out at all of the delicious NYC restaurants (there are so many!) – I’ve barely entertained in my apartment. When Kate Spade asked me to collaborate around their tabletop collection, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to kick start my resolution. I put together a little New Years buffet inspired by Kate Spade’s latest book “All in Good Taste.” On the menu was an Arugula salad with pear, blueberries, and almond slices – which I placed in this serving bowl. I made a simple vinaigrette by mixing olive oil, white wine vinegar, lemon juice, and a drop of Dijon mustard. I roasted winter veggies; butternut squash, carrots, parsnips and potatoes, and then garnished them with rosemary and olive oil and baked at 400′ for 45 minutes. I made a small berry salad to have on the side, and couldn’t resist whipping up a big cheese plate (my favorites are Clothbound Cheddar, any Truffle cheese, and Manchego.) Lastly I put out sliced baguette and brie topped with Turkish figs and honey. I absolutely love the classic black and white striped pattern on these plates and think the subtle touch of blue is the perfect pop of color. These plates look and feel like fancy china but are dishwasher safe so I don’t have to be too precious with them – I can actually use them every day!
