A Look Back At 2016

TGIF!  It’s hard to believe that 2017 is just a few days away!  2016 flew by didn’t it?  I am so incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities and experiences I had this year.  My biggest pinch me moment was by far having breakfast with my idol Diane Von Furstenberg inside her NYC apartment.  She is a true inspiration.  I loved getting a private tour of the Met Museum earlier this summer (you can too – details here), traveling all over the world – everywhere from London to Costa Rica, and partnering with incredible brands like Ralph Lauren, Audi, Aerin Lauder, and Eberjey.  I also loved speaking at several conferences this year and meeting/connecting with so many of you in person.  I’ll be speaking at the Create Cultivate conference in NYC in May which I’m super excited about!  Like I mentioned in my birthday post a few weeks back, this year was full of highlights as well as challenges.  2016 was a very humbling year for me and taught me to always trust my gut, speak up for what I believe in, and stay true to myself.  One of the most important things I learned and finally accepted this year, was that there is no such thing as the perfect work/life balance.  It’s impossible to achieve.  Sometimes work will have to come before friends, sometimes friends will come before work, same thing goes for family, and personal time.  Not every aspect of our lives will be in sync and/or get our 100% undivided attention.  I think we can all be pretty hard on ourselves for not “doing it all” and it’s important to remember to be kind to yourself (as cheesy as that may sound!)  Studies actually show that people who think positive thoughts about their bodies while working out, burn more calories.  I personally need to remind myself of this!  So here’s to the New Year and being a little bit kinder and more accepting of ourselves.  Here’s to remembering to “stop and smell the roses” because life really is short.  Don’t overdue it with a million resolutions and don’t fixate on all the things you don’t have/need to achieve this week.  Treat yourself to a fun girls trip or even a solo trip (I did this yoga and surf retreat in July!), get a foot massage (I swear by this place in NYC LOL), or take the day off just because (don’t tell your boss I said so ;))  Cheers to 2017 and thank you as always for reading. xx
