Semi-Formal Wedding Guest Dresses

We attended a beautiful wedding in Vermont last weekend! The background was picturesque, set in the charming town of Manchester. The invitation said semi-formal, and many of the guests opted for summery, midi length floral wedding guest dresses. I wanted to share a roundup of more casual wedding guest dresses for when the invite isn’t black tie or formal! Pink and Floral Dresses If you’re going for a solid pink dress, I love the idea of doing a gold chandelier earring, collar necklace, or even turquoise earring. The contrast between pink and turquoise is soooo gorgeous. A few pink dresses I’m loving right now are this one, this one, this one, this one and this one. If your budget allows it, this pink slip dress and this pink silk dress are stunning. Blue and Champagne Colored Dresses This simple champagne slip dress is so elegant. I love a navy dress for a wedding guest look – this one and this one are perfect. And you can never go wrong with a blue floral dress like this one or this one. Black Cocktail Dresses I included a variety of black cocktail dresses here, from a strapless option, to a spaghetti strap option, a midi flutter sleeve dress, a long sleeve silk dress, and a sexy cutout dress. I linked a ton of other options below as well so be sure to scroll through the widget! And be sure to check my Bridal Shop page for new suggestions.

Formal Wedding Guest Dresses

Wedding season is upon us! I always like to have a few wedding guest dress options hanging in my closet for upcoming weddings. It’s always those times when you’re looking for something specific, that it seems impossible to find you know?! So, to minimize last minute-panic dress shopping, I stock up on 2-3 styles that I know I’ll be able to wear for any special occasion! Here are a few that caught my eye. Wedding Guest Dresses My go-to colors for wedding guest dresses are; navy and black, but I also love a soft pink or blue in the spring/summer. The right floral print can be gorgeous as well. They say it’s a faux pas to wear red to someone’s wedding, but I don’t know…is it? If it’s a destination wedding somewhere like Miami then I don’t think it would be inappropriate, but that’s just me! I would obviously stay away from any sort of white or ivory shade dress though haha! Wedding Accessories You can never go wrong with a strappy Stuart Weitzman nudistong sandal. If you’re worried about comfort, they have a ton of nice block/lower heel options. I think an open toe heel looks best with a long gown versus a pump. I also love Aquazzura, Jimmy Choo and Alexandre Birman heels. For more budget friendly options, I love this Just Fab block sandal (I have it in both colors) and this braided sandal that comes in brown and white! For clutches I love this one, this one, this one, this one, and this one. How fun is this glitter one?! And don’t be afraid to rock a playful earring or bold necklace!

What To Wear: Engagement Photos

One of the most frequently-asked-questions I’ve received since getting engaged has been, “What should I wear for my engagement photos?” I shared what I wore to our engagement in this post, but wanted to share more options below! What To Wear: Engagement Photos All White Engagement Outfits You don’t have to wear white for your engagement photos, but I really do love an all white outfit! I think it’s special to wear a ton of white leading up to your wedding. I’ll link a few styles I love below, but since things tend to sell out quickly, I’ll also share the retailers and brands I recommend looking at first for white outfits. For retailers, I’m always able to find beautiful pieces at; Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, The Outnet, Moda Operandi, Intermix, and Net A Porter. I particularly love the brands; Zimmermann, Faithfull, Alexis and Love Shack Fancy for romantic, ethereal white dresses. I’m loving this dress, this dress, this dress, this dress, this dress, this dress, and this dress. I also love a two piece set like I wore, with a crop top and midi skirt! Dressy or Casual You can choose to wear something dressy or more casual – there are no rules when it comes to picking out an outfit for engagement photos! My advice is to take into account your location, and what your partner is willing to wear/will look good in. From there, I’d order a few options and lay out your looks on the bed with your partner’s looks to see what will feel cohesive. And who says you can’t shoot more than one outfit?! One dressy, one casual! Non white engagement outfits I love a subtle floral midi dress that feels feminine with a touch of bohemian. I also love a pop of color like a soft pink or blue. A few dresses I’d opt for are this one, this one, this one and this one. And this navy blue wrap dress is so elegant (also comes in pink!) Shoes to wear to an engagement shoot Your shoe choice will depend on your location and dress style. If you’re doing a more formal dress, you can never go wrong with the Alexandre Birman Clarita sandal (comes in multiple colors) or the Stuart Weitzman nudistong heel. For the fall, I love a subtle suede taupe or brown leather boot with a floral midi dress. A gold or light brown sandal (love a lace up or thong style) would be beautiful with a more casual dress. I don’t love a wedge and I’m not a huge fan of a block heel in photos since they tend to look too chunky. I’d opt for something classic that elongates your legs. If you really love a loud shoe, I’d save it for your engagement party or rehearsal dinner! Jimmy Choo has some really fabulous ones. Accessories You don’t need to have a purse in the photos and I wouldn’t do loud jewelry. I’d stick with a pretty pearl earring like this or the gold charm earrings I always wear which are included in my favorite jewelry post. A gold necklace like this one or a white + gold necklace like this one would be perfect.

Our Engagement

I am so excited to share that Thomas and I got engaged in Miami in early November! It’s been such a special time for both of us! With the holiday craziness I didn’t get a chance to post about our engagement on here. I wanted to share a few engagement details and photos with you! The Engagement Thomas flew me to Miami the first weekend of November. We checked into my favorite hotel; Soho Beach House. It was soooo nice to have a change of scenery and stick our toes in the sand. We relaxed the first day and ordered room service – their food is the absolute BEST. The second day is a bit of a blur now haha… we hung by the pool, and then that evening right before dinner, Thomas led me to the beach where he proposed! He had my favorite photographer hiding behind a beach stand capturing our special moment. I was in shock, and couldn’t stop smiling. Having this set of photos to capture that joy right during and after the proposal is truly priceless! After the proposal we took it all in, and then got ready for dinner at my favorite restaurant; Casa Tua. Engagement Outfit Details I packed a ton of white outfits for our weekend, knowing that something was up if we were flying to Miami on a whim! We had talked about a ring design together months prior, so luckily he knew exactly what shape and style I liked. This is something I suggest all couples discuss beforehand because you wear your engagement ring everyday and it’s a huge investment, so you want to be absolutely in love with it! I showed him photos of rings I loved (Amal Clooney’s was my #1 inspo) and he had it made from there. The style I ended up going with was an emerald cut diamond with tapered baguettes on each side. Classic and timeless! The outfit I wore was a two piece set I had sitting in my closet for years from Zimmermann. All of their pieces are special, intricate and feminine. While the exact outfit I’m wearing has since sold out, I’ve linked similar options below! Engagement Photos Our photographer, Bailey Ann, was so sweet and made us feel so comfortable. She snapped a ton of photos of us just being natural and elated. She is a genius when it comes to capturing those beautiful, in-between, organic moments! I was smiling ear to ear and in shock/high on adrenaline the entire time. Minutes before Thomas proposed, a hurricane was actually moving in on us, so he only had a small window (about 20 minutes) until it started to downpour! I love the moodiness and clouds that are behind us in these photos! The impending hurricane really made the pictures that much more gorgeous and ironically enough, the lighting was perfect (not too bright/not too dark.) Once it started raining, we ran up to our room and danced on the balcony and bed. My best friend had martinis sent up to our room waiting for us and Thomas had a huge bouquet of white roses on the nightstand. I’m so excited about this next chapter and feel so lucky that I get to be with my soulmate! Thank you so much for your well wishes, love and excitement – we are truly over the moon!
