Cherry Blossom Season in LA

Silver Lake, CA

A few weeks ago I did a MAJOR closet clean out.  I instantly felt this huge sense of relief and was able to really see what was in my closet!  I realized I had been neglecting some of my classic pieces that I used to wear all the time in New York.  Living in LA certainly doesn’t inspire me to get dressed and put together lol – I’m just being honest!  It’s VERY casual here and always warm (which is amazing!) so most days you’ll find me in boyfriend jeans and a plaid button down, or Alo Yoga work out clothes and Nike sneakers.  I like to be comfortable when I’m home answering emails, on conference calls to discuss my latest project, or playing with Charlie – and Derek doesn’t ever mind/care what I wear which is great!  We tend to cook at home more than eat out (who am I?! I used to eat out EVERY night in NYC! haha) so comfy clothes reign!  Anyways, my point is, that seeing those classic staple pieces in my closet a few weeks back made me feel put together again – and they gave me a little pep in my step – AND they allowed me to play with other pieces I hadn’t worn in a while.  In the past 2 weeks – you’ve now seen me wear a white button down 3 times, and my favorite classic wash jeans countless times, and these black pumps 2 times.  Investing in well made, classic pieces to sprinkle in with one of a kind, special pieces is ALWAYS a good idea.  Use your classic pieces as the foundation or anchor to your outfit and style them knowing that you’ll always look put together and feel confident!

Such beautiful photos Kat! I love when spring finally comes around. Unfortunately here in NYC we are getting 12+ inches of snow today! Sure doesn’t feel like yesterday was the first day of spring. xo elle

Kat you are sooo right darling, this east coast west coast thing is very true . New York vs LA .
For me right now Toronto vs Vancouver . The relax vibe is so overwhelming. I’m so West Coast now it gives me anxiety to go east . Ha,Ha make the
most of it . But I still can’t handle sandals and shorts in high end restaurants.

So nice to see the flowering cherries! You’re 2-3 weeks ahead of us here in NY with them, I can’t wait!

Good points about always having classic pieces in your wardrobe, then you only need to fill in with a few new things each season. I’m due for a closet clean-out now too, but it just won’t warm up! We had 5″ of snow just yesterday! It’s pretty hard to exchange cozy turtlenecks for sleeveless florals when there’s still snow on the ground, no matter what the calendar says!
