Shades of Grey

I love a monochromatic outfit anytime of year, but especially in the winter when you can layer layer layer! We need all the layers we can get on the East coast right now because it’s been freeeeezing. My secret to staying warm in the winter is a combination of things, but involves one common factor; cashmere. How To Stay Warm In The WinterCashmere is my secret weapon to combatting the cold. It’s something that is SO worth investing in during the winter. Whether it be a cashmere scarf, a cashmere hat, a cashmere sweater, or a cashmere coat – trust me, you’ll be so glad you splurged. Cashmere is such a high quality material and really keeps you warm. Some of my favorite cashmere pieces are from White + Warren. I own several of their hats and scarves, and am so impressed at how thick and cozy everything is! I also LOVE Vince’s cashmere sweaters – I own about 7 of them in various colors and they’ve lasted for years. Best Cashmere SweatersIn addition to Vince cashmere sweaters, White + Warren also makes great cashmeres sweaters, as does Intermix and Nordstrom. This cream v-neck Nordstrom Signature sweater is one that I’ve been reaching for all winter long because it’s the perfect length and cut. And this one is a steal for under $50! I bought this Intermix cropped sweater in 3 colors – and love it tucked into pencil skirts and high waisted pants. The Perfect Leopard Coat

I’m not going to lie, it’s my first winter back in NYC and I’m already soooo over the cold! I feel like I’ve been wearing the same black winter coat, jeans and boots for weeks! The other day I decided it was time to add some pizzaz back into my winter wardrobe, so I pulled out my favorite leopard coat from last season. It completely turned my day around. Sounds dramatic, but you’d be amazed at what a fabulous coat can do for your spirit!!! The Perfect Leopard CoatWhy do I think *this* particular coat is the perfect leopard coat? I’ve owned several leopard print coats in the past, but I just can’t get enough of this one. First of all I love the slim cut, it’s not too bulky so you can wear it throughout the fall and spring, its warm and made of a super soft material, AND the leopard print is ultra classic so it doesn’t look cheap. Often times leopard print can look CHEAP. Not this one! It’s a best seller for a reason! FYI I do recommend sizing down as it does run about a size big. PS if you live in a warm weather place – definitely look into the duster version. PPS I also love this one! Faux Leather LeggingsI paired my coat with these BOMB faux leather leggings. Yes I just used the word BOMB because they’re just that good lol! I’ve been on the hunt for a good faux leather legging for years and these ones look 100% REAL and expensive. They feel soooo luxurious, and have a side zipper that you can barely see. They don’t stretch out, are a medium waist cut, come in short, regular or tall, and run true to size (I’m wearing a size 2 here.) PLUS they’re under $100! Sleek Black BootiesI’ve worked with Sarah Flint in the past and her shoes really are as comfy as people say they are. They sent me these black booties from their fall/winter collection and I truly love them. I found them to run about a 1/2 size big, so I recommend going down a 1/2 to a full size. I love that the heel is high enough to be able to wear them to a formal dinner, but I can also easily and comfortably walk miles around the city in them. The gold zippers on either side are a really elegant touch!

Christmas Tree Shopping

This year I bought a REAL Christmas tree. I feel totally giddy about it and it’s even more special than I could have imagined. It smells heavenly and it just makes me that much more excited about the holidays! Cute Cold Weather OutfitIt’s been pouring ALL week in NYC so I’ve been bundled in this cute black teddy coat and chunky turtleneck. Both pieces are from Walmart’s Fashion section which you know I love. If you’ve ordered something from any of my past posts – you know how impressive the quality is for the price point. It’s pretty amazing. This coat is no exception. It feels WAY more expensive than $89. It’s thick, true to size, and you can actually move in it (which I’ve said before is my biggest thing with teddy coats – I hate when they’re stiff.) This turtleneck comes in several colors and is from the Scoop collection. It’s got a great oversized collar. How To Wear Winter WhiteDon’t be afraid to wear white – especially white pants in the fall or winter! They really lighten up a dark coat and dreary day. I am OBSESSED with these white/cream corduroy pants. They fit like a DREAM – no seriously, they’re some of the best fitting skinny pants I’ve ever owned. You know how sometimes corduroy pants are scratchy inside and don’t have any stretch in them? These ones are super soft and have the perfect amount of stretch. FYI I found them to run true to size. Oh, and they’re on sale for under $13. They also come in several other colors! Waterproof BootiesIf you live in NYC or anywhere where there’s a lot of rain/snow you know how much your shoes get BEAT UP. I’ve been searching for attractive boots/booties that I don’t have to worry about ruining for meetings/date nights on rainy days and I can’t say enough good things about these Scoop booties from Walmart’s Fashion section. They’re almost sold out, but the entire line has a TON of other options like these, these, and these. While it doesn’t say that they’re technically “waterproof” online, I can attest that they held up during this wild weather we’ve been having! I’m eyeing these gorgeous shearling trim boots next! Holiday Party PiecesIf you’re looking for a few festive holiday outfit ideas – get this velvet blazer, these wide leg plaid pants and this fun little metallic romper. This champagne colored lace tank is also beautiful and only $10! Shop my entire look from Walmart Fashion below!

A Plaid Pantsuit

A pantsuit is polished, sophisticated and chic. It’s also a flattering style that looks good on any body type. You can bring it to life with a lace cami, a fabulous pump, a turtleneck, or even a red coat like this one. I had a holiday party to head to and didn’t feel like wearing a skirt or dress – so these plaid pieces were perfect. The pop of red brought the look from corporate to festive in under 2 seconds. If you don’t already own a red coat, I love this one, this one and this one. I’ve styled red coats SO many different ways over the years – a few examples are here, here, and here. It’s especially fun to bring it out in December and throw it over a simple all black outfit or classic neutrals. If you’re hesitant to try a pantsuit or feel it’s too formal, then just go with a great plaid trouser. I love a wide leg or tapered plaid trouser – this one is really fun and has sort of a 70s vibe, and this one is affordable and can be worn countless ways. I’m almost done with all of my holiday shopping which is such a relief! If you still need a few last minute gift ideas be sure to check all of my gift guides here! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
