Since so many of us are now working from home, I wanted to give you a little inspo on how to make your office feel both functional and cozy. These photos are from all of my home offices over the years! Which one is your favorite? :)
Home Office Inspo
Desks
I’ve had this CB2 lucite desk for 4+ years. It’s such a great piece, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It also comes in a smaller version which I’ve used as a bar cart, console, and most recently vanity, but it would be great as a desk in a smaller space. It does scratch easily, but honestly, I don’t mind the scratches. The best thing to do to protect it from scratches, would be to put a little mat or rubber padding underneath your computer if you’re really worried about it. Other than that, I LOVE how much light it brings into a room. It’s not clunky, and it really allows for other decorative pieces in the room to shine. I also owned this white Bungalow 5 desk (pricey, but sooooo beautiful) and currently have my eye on this black desk for something different.
Desk Chairs
I hate the look of a conventional “office” rolling chair. Although it’s comfortable it totally ruins the vibe!!! My office chairs have all been upholstered and comfortable, but also visually appealing. My large white upholstered chair is from Ballard Designs, my beige chair was from Restoration Hardware, and my white bamboo chair was from Bungalow 5.
Rugs
A rug instantly warms up a space. You can never go wrong with a natural jute rug – this one is my favorite. You can layer a cool zebra rug over it, or even a shearling rug. A 100% real sheepskin rug under my desk is a MUST for me now because it actually activates your blood circulation! It’s so cozy and keeps my feet warm the entire time I’m working. Other rugs I love are vintage Turkish ones from Etsy.
Storage
With the lucite desk, obviously there aren’t any drawers! I’ve gotten creative with storage over the years, and kept old designer shoe boxes for papers and trinkets. I also like to utilize simple Ikea Billy bookcases (they have a model that comes with doors too, which is great!) For thicker paperwork, I use dresser drawers, or store things outside of my office if they’re not being used 24/7.
Accessories
I like to keep the accessories on my desk to a bare minimum now. I’ve really edited and paired down over the years and find that I work best with way less clutter and stuff around me. You can’t go wrong with this lucite tray for loose papers. I also love all of Aerin’s trays – talk about a perfect Christmas or birthday gift for someone! This one is my FAVE! In terms of planners, I now keep everything digital. I do like to write out to-do notes though, and regularly order notepads and stationary from this cute Etsy shop. A few fashion coffee table books are always fun to have out, and of course a pretty vase for flowers.
Your office in your last apartment was my favorite! That shoe and handbag wall are what dreams are made of!

[…] I loved this look back at Kat’s home offices over the years. […]
Hi kat,
I live in Newport Beach ca and I need to turn one wall in my bedroom to a closet shelf similar to your posts from your soho & upper east side room. Who do you recommend in Newport / LA area for doing that ?
Hi! I don’t know of any contractors or closet people in LA – sorry about that! I recommend looking at Yelp or asking bloggers in that area :)
Thank you lovely Kat:)
