Our Christmas Tree

This has been my favorite Christmas season thus far. No doubt it’s because I’ve been able to spend it with Thomas and his family who LOVE Christmas and fully embrace the holiday. I love that Thomas insisted we get a real tree (I’ve never had a real tree in my NYC apartment!) this year and carried it all the way home. It smells SO good and was 100% worth it. We’ve been playing Christmas music in our apartment all month long, and talking about what we’ll be cooking for his family’s annual Christmas Eve party! Emotions During The HolidaysChristmas hasn’t always been such a joyful time for me though. To be honest, it’s actually been a bit stressful and lonely since my parents divorced and moved on opposite sides of the country. I’ve often felt uncomfortable trying to decide who to spend Christmas with each year, and bummed out that we don’t have a special set of traditions. Can anyone else relate? Whatever you’re doing for the holidays – just remember you’re not alone, and you’re not the only one who sometimes feels blue this time of year! Holidays bring up a TON of emotions for people and it’s normal to FEEL ALL THE FEELS! Christmas Tree DecorNow let’s talk about my Christmas tree and holiday decor! Every year I pick a color scheme and choose ornaments, wrapping paper and decor that tie into it. For 4 years in a row now, I’ve chosen silver + gold as my color scheme. It’s just so classic, elegant and works well in any home. You may remember my West Village tree, and my Venice Beach house tree – I loved both so much! This year’s Soho tree was full of these beautiful silver ornaments that were insanely reasonable, as well as gold balls that I found at a random Christmas tree stand around the corner from my apartment. I mixed and matched the colors and sizes, and added a simple strand of lights around the tree. Also, I used a black blanket as a tree skirt since I couldn’t find one I loved online, and tied a black grosgrain ribbon as a tree topper. I picked up silver + gold wrapping paper and ribbon at Paper Source and used extra ornaments as little decorative touches on everyone’s gifts. Thank youThank you so much for reading, supporting me, and following along, I’m so grateful. Sending you lots of love wherever you are in the world. Merry Christmas Eve!

How To Have A Cozy Night In

How To Have A Cozy Night In Thomas and I have been nesting like crazy this month, and it’s been SO fun staying home, relaxing, cooking, and listening to music in our living room. We recently upgraded our music game with this fun record player and I have to say, it makes all the difference. There’s just something about listening to vinyl records on an old school record player, curled up on the couch, that that can’t be beat. This record player comes in a ton of different colors and patterns, but I went with this classic tan linen one. It’s the perfect addition to any home, apartment, or office because it’s compact, light, and easy to travel with (when it’s closed it looks like a vintage briefcase!) It’s also really cute as a decorative addition to a bar cart, coffee table, console, or dresser. With the holidays coming up, a vinyl record player is THE perfect “gift for him” – your significant other, dad, brother, will love it! And of course it would make a fab “gift for her” – especially if you have a music junkie mom or girlfriend! It looks WAY more expensive than $50 doesn’t it? Yep it’s $50 and arrived in 2 days from Walmart!!! Walmart carries a ton of vinyl records – both old and new to go along with the record player. They have everyone from Lana del Rey to Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra and The Beatles. I LOVE Al Green so I couldn’t resist getting this vinyl record too! Shop more of my favorite vinyl records + record players below – and enjoy your weekend!

Apple Cider Donuts for Fall

I want my apartment to permanently smell like these apple cider donuts that I made last week. I wish there was a scratch and sniff for this post because you would D-I-E! Cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg, and butter wafting through the air…heaven, truly. This was the easiesttttt recipe, and believe it or not – I am not even a donut person! Yeah, seriously! But these bad boys, are nothing like the store-bought donuts you’re used to. They’re moist, flavorful, and light – almost like an apple cinnamon muffin, but more fun. When I moved back to NYC, I left most of my cooking supplies and cute holiday decor behind. It was too much of a pain to bring every little thing, and I just figured I wouldn’t have enough space in my city kitchen for it all. Thankfully, I was able to replace a ton of items I left by ordering them at Walmart (their 2 day shipping option is THE BEST) and everything was soooo reasonably priced and sized. You really do have to think about the size of things in NYC, and this petite 6 donut pan is PERFECT for any kitchen. So is this baking rack! Affordable Items From Walmart It’s so fun to get in the fall/holiday spirit and I wanted to share a few easy, affordable things from Walmart that have made my place feel more cozy and fall-like this season! For fall/Halloween/October themed decor, I love these white pumpkins which can also be used on a Thanksgiving table. These black and white linen napkins are so classic and honestly great to use year round. These black and white straws make any drink more festive. And how fab is this big plaid blanket for picnics or snuggles on the couch? For baking, I love these Halloween sprinkles, this donut pan, baking rack, simple black spatula, hand mixer, and black “cauldrons” to put toppings in. Walmart literally has everything from decor, to baking items, and ingredients – like flour, sugar, vanilla, and candy corn or frosting! These are my favorite mixing bowls – I use them for everything from apps to baking, candy and more. Apple Cider Donuts Recipe Get the apple cider donut recipe here – and let me know how you like them! I can’t wait to make another batch this weekend (I already ate all of these in 2 days – after sharing a few of course ;0) Oh my goodness, I almost forgot – can we talk about Charlie’s costume?! It’s a Where’s Waldo? Halloween costume for dogs – and was under $20. He surprisingly likes it too (minus the glasses which he tore off in 5 seconds haha!) Do you have a pup? There are so many perfect dog costumes here!!! PS Walmart also has some really great adult costumes too! PPS you can shop this black henley here!
