Summer Skincare Routine

With the severe change of weather in the summer – hello heat and humidity! – you really want to be mindful of what skincare products you’re using each season. For example, in the winter, I’ll use a thicker, heavier face cream, while in the summer I’ll use a lighter one because I don’t need it – and also, I break out from the combo of heat + a heavy cream. Today, I’m sharing which products I use during the summer! Summer Skincare Routine Exfoliator If you’ve been following me for a while, you know the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is one of my holy grail products. I’m obsessed and have been using it for almost 10 years now! It’s soooo gentle, but so effective. It’s a rice based powder that you pour into your hand (about 1/2 a teaspoon), then wet and rub together, to create a paste. You gently massage it all over your face (really get that nose area!) and wash off. I do this two times a week in the shower and it keeps my skin bright, smooth and even. It’s gentle enough to use everyday if needed! Moisturizer After you exfoliate and/or cleanse, apply this dreamy, sheer moisturizer. It’s called Active Moist and contains Silk Amino Acids which gives it the amazing texture. I like to apply it right after I get out of the shower, or splash my face with cold water in the morning, because it absorbs best when my skin is slightly damp. I bring it all the way down to my neck area as well. What’s great about this moisturizer is it’s ideal for summer – it’s so light and sheer. SPF I am VERY picky about my SPF. Most SPF makes me break out. The Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense passes the test. It’s invisible just like the name says, weightless, and blends beautifully into your skin. I LOVE that it also protects against blue light that comes from our phones and computer screens! It’s packed with Green Tea Antioxidant so it feels really nourishing and is also great for sensitive skin. I apply this right over my moisturizer in the morning, and reapply as needed throughout the day. Don’t forget to get your neck too! Free Exfoliator! I’m so excited because for the next 24 hours only – Dermalogica is offering a FULL size of my favorite exfoliator, the Daily Microfoliant (a $59 value), for FREE when you spend $100 on Dermalogica.com. Simply use code: KATSUMMER at checkout. If you haven’t tried the Daily Microfoliant already, now is the perfect time. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Best of Beauty: May

It’s already the end of June and I realized I haven’t done a Best of Beauty for May roundup. Better late than never right?! I’ve been testing quite a few new products, and using some old favorites on repeat lately, so I wanted to share everything I’m loving. Goop Face Oil I’ve raved about this face oil before and have been using it a lot more now that I have a Gua Sha tool. I dab a few drops on each cheek and run the tool along it to help with jaw tension and puffiness. I love the texture and smell, plus it’s super nourishing. Gua Sha This is such a great tool for sculpting your face and de-puffing. It’s so easy to use – just run it along your jawline with face oil. I use it about 3-4 times a week. Skin Medica Eye Cream I’ve tested hundreds of eye creams and found about 5 that I actually like. This is one of them. The consistency is really nice (not too thin, not too thick) and it absorbs really fast. It brightens the skin under your eyes and really hydrates the fine lines. Honest Beauty Mascara I’ve been wanting to find a clean mascara for years and am beyond impressed with this one. At first I was annoyed that you have to use the primer before applying it, but it takes 2 seconds and really does add length to your lashes. This is pretty much the only mascara I use now. Iluminage Eye Mask If you’re looking for an eye mask, look no further. I’ve used this one for years and it’s so comfortable. It’s wider than most masks and also adjustable. Supergoop Glowscreen I LOVE this sunscreen. It’s super light, sheer, and has just the right amount of highlight/tinted moisturizer/SPF coverage. I wear this everyday now. Foot Spa Bath Thomas’ mom bought us this spa pedicure foot bath a few weeks ago and we’ve been using it a ton. Since I haven’t been able to get a pedicure in months, this really does the trick. So relaxing. Lancome Juicy Tube Remember Lancome juicy tubes?! I used to buy these religiously in high school! They just came back so I ordered a few….and I just LOVE the way they look on. They give your lips a super high shine and smell amazing.

How To Clean Your Candles

Every time I share these empty jars of candles on Instagram, I always get questions asking me how to clean them so I thought I’d share this post. I love repurposing things – especially when they’re this aesthetically pleasing! It’s fun to see my favorite candle jars sitting out on my dresser, vanity, or bathroom counter rather than a boring cup or glass. How To Clean Your Candles Wait until your candle is almost done, but not to the point where you can see any glass at the bottom. Pop it into the freezer for about an hour or two. Take a spoon and crack the frozen wax, it should come up in 1-2 thick pieces. Wash the remaining residue with warm soapy water. So easy right?! You can also use the jars as drinking glasses (once thoroughly washed and sans label). Or vases for flowers around your apartment. I use an old Diptqyue 34 candle as a vase on my living room table and love the way it looks as opposed to a clear vase. My Favorite Candles My three favorite candles are Diptyque Vanille, Diptyque 34, and Byredo Bohemia. Do you repurpose your candles too? What are some of your favorite scents?

Best of Beauty: April

It’s hard to believe another month is over! Time has been flying by and it’s FINALLY starting to warm up which makes me so happy!!! Another month down means it’s time to share what beauty products really WOW’d me. I’ve been busy testing, testing, testing and so many products did not make the cut. I am super picky about what beauty products I use, so here are the ones that did make it! Giorgio Armani Foundation This has been pretty much the only foundation I’ve used since I started wearing foundation! It doesn’t clog your pores, can be applied with just your hands, and looks flawless on. Riki Vanity Mirror and Light It’s been extremely rainy and grey pretty much all of April here in NYC, so I’ve been needing the extra light for things like tweezing my brows! I also love using this light for IG videos because it brightens and smooths your skin! Sephora Nail Kit We’ve all been struggling to keep our nails looking decent and this little nail kit has all of the tools you need until you can make it back to the salon! RVL Skincare Toner Pads My dermatologist and friend Dr. Rita Linkner created these toner pads to prevent breakouts and shrink your pores. I’ve been using them on my T-zone and lightly around the rest of my face after I cleanse and they take anything left over off right away. Dyson Hairdryer I don’t blow dry my hair unless I absolutely need to which is about 2 days a year, but when I do I use this hairdryer. I have a ton of hair and it’s really thick, so it used to take me FOREVER to dry it, but this dries it in minutes – it’s crazy. Thomas stole it from me and uses it everyday – he loves it too! Sisley Mascara I’ve used a ton of mascaras and been disappointed in 95% of them. I keep coming back to this one and have been using it consistently for about 2 years now. I LOVE IT! It really lengthens, stays on all day, and doesn’t get clumpy. Charlotte Tilbury Highlighter I’ve mentioned this product a ton because it’s honestly the best highlighter. Just run your index finger through the highlighter part and then across your nose and cheeks and you look fresh faced and glowy! Sally Hansen Wax Strips Since salons aren’t open I haven’t been able to get waxed and have been relying on these Sally Hansen wax strips to get me by! Without these I would have a very hairy upper lip LOL. Unite Argan Oil I own a bunch of hair oils. They all smell great and come in pretty packaging. But the one thing that drives me nuts is that they just don’t absorb into my hair! They sit on top of it and make it feel weighed down and greasy. This oil actually seeps deep into the split ends and repairs them. Dae Deep Conditioning Treatment I’ve been raving about Dae lately because I really am impressed with how well the products work. The deep conditioning treatment is no different. I actually use it as an extra conditioner in the shower and leave it on for just 1 minute and wash it out once a week and it gives my hair SO much extra hydration. It says to leave it on for 10 minutes, but I see immediate results in 1 no joke! So those are the beauty products I LOVED this past April! What are some beauty products that really impressed you this month? I have a beauty cabinet full of new products to test out for this coming month and will be doing lots of giveaways on my IG stories so be on the lookout! Check out past month’s Best of Beauty: March and Best of Beauty: February.
