How To Get Glowing Skin

What is my secret to healthy, glowing skin? It’s a combination of things that I am so excited to share with you in today’s post!  I get asked about my skincare routine often and while there are a combination of things I do, at the end of the day, I really feel that it all comes down to the food you eat.  What you put into your body directly impacts everything – including your skin.  So if you’re eating a diet high in sugar, additives, caffeine, alcohol, and dairy – and your skin is always breaking out – well then it’s time to re-evaluate what you’re eating.  Simple changes like eliminating those items majority of the time, drinking enough water, and eating healthy fat will turn your skin around within days – I promise!  Here are all of my skincare secrets, tips, and tricks! DietAs I mentioned above this is #1 most important contributing factor to the way your skin looks.  Eating healthy fat, staying hydrated, and cutting back on sugar, artificial flavors, and dehydrating things like caffeine and alcohol are key.  While some say coffee is good for you, I personally find that it doesn’t work for me and completely dehydrates me, gives me stomach pain, and actually raises my anxiety/cortisol levels. I love matcha but even matcha was making me feel anxious, so I limit it to once a week!   MoisturizeI am constantly sent different products to test out every single week.  I love rotating products and am always down to try new things – especially if they’re all natural – which many new products are starting to be!  At the moment, I have these products on rotation; La Mer eye cream and Sisley face cream (any of Sisley’s face creams are amazing – I particularly love this heavy duty anti aging one (a celeb favorite) or the hydrating booster.)  I’m also obsessed with any moisturizer from L’Occitane (they use high quality ingredients and are super affordable – I’ve used their Divine line for years and love to travel with their Aqua line.) WaterEvery morning I splash my face with cold water.  Cold water stimulates the blood flow in your skin and reduces pore size.  It also wakes you up and is so refreshing!  I then lightly dab my face in a towel – I never rub that creates wrinkles!!!!!  I also try and carry around a Swell bottle and drink from it religiously.  If I feel dehydrated I add a pinch of pink Himalayan salt into it – salt attracts water so it instantly hydrates you!  This is great to do after an intense yoga session, workout, or hike. CleanseI don’t use a cleanser when I wake up in the morning which is probably bad but whatever it’s what I prefer!  I like just a simple splash of cold water!  At the end of the day, I use Simple makeup wipes to remove my makeup – they’re so gentle and really take everything off.  I’ve heard makeup wipes are terrible for you and have been urged to stop using them because they pull your skin and don’t fully clean it, but I haven’t found a cleanser that I like that removes eyeliner!  After my wipes, I use this milk cleanser to really get the makeup wipe film off and deeply clean – it makes my skin feel so soft and supple after.  I’ve heard amazing things about the GOOP cleanser and apparently it does remove all eye makeup – so I will be testing that and report back!!!   ExfoliateI have been using this Dermalogica exfoliator for 7 years.  It’s gentle and makes my skin feel so smooth.  I use it in the shower 2-3 times/week – never more.  Exfoliation is important, but I don’t think we should be doing it everyday since it is abrasive.   Face Oil + Lymph Drainage Massage Every morning I use a face oil – either the Indie Lee face oil, The Buff face oil (my new favorite!) or Mara face oil.  I put a drop of it in my hands and rub it all over my face, then I use this Clarisonic Uplift vibrating tool to do lymph drainage on my face – if you already have the Clarisonic you can just buy this massage head.  This helps me de-puff my face, chisel my jawline and also allows the product to seep in deeper.  I use face oil at night rather than moisturizer before bed. Face MasksI have tried tons of masks and my two favorites are; Sisley Black Rose mask and Tata Harper Resurfacing mask.  The Sisley mask is 1000% worth the money.  It really is.  It’s just incredibly hydrating and will make your skin feel INSANELY soft, dewy, milky…and it lasts for a long time.  The Tata Harper Resurfacing mask basically deep cleans your skin and washes away any dead skin so that you’re left with a super clean, seamless, glowy palette.   Serums, Toners, Face MistsI use these things sparingly as I like to keep my routine and products short and concise.  Also, I add these items in when I’m feeling extra dehydrated or depleted.  I love SKII Facial Essence, Olga Lorencin toner, L’Occitane face mist, and have heard THE BEST things about this Drunk Elephant Vitamin C Serum – seriously like 10 girlfriends have raved about it to me. SPFThis Supergoop sunscreen is my favorite face sunscreen and I apply it everyday pre-foundation and post moisturizer.  My Cle de Beaute concealer has SPF in it which is great – and crucial for the sensitive under eye area! FacialsSurprisingly enough, I do not get facials very often.  I adore them and feel so pampered when I do, but I either don’t have time or don’t make time to get them!  I go a few times a year to different places.  In LA I see Olga Lorencin (Jessica Biel and Halle Berry’s facialist) who is very knowledgeable and really takes the time to evaluate your skin, and then I go to Heyday – which is also in NYC, and focuses on clean/all natural beauty products!  The decor in there is to die for – and you’ll for sure want to buy everything in their shop!   Blemishes/PimplesI get a handful of pimples a year and they are always from either eating too much dairy + sugar or touching my face when I travel.  I do eat dairy and sugar from time and time – I’m not completely a clean eater and hate being overly strict with myself (a girls gotta live!), but I really try to be 80% of the time since I want to look and feel my best.  Traveling is so tricky because the plane air is dehydrating, your skin has to adjust to new air and climates, and there are germs everywhere.  I got a huge pimple on my cheek on our second to last day in Italy from all of the above and was sooooo annoyed!  Luckily, my girlfriend who I was traveling with taught me the best tricks. First, wait to pop it until it’s really ready and only do so with clean hands.  Then, dab eye drops on the spot since it reduces redness.  Finally, cover it up with concealer, then foundation, then a dab of powder to seal it.  This works wonders on hiding it and within 2 days it was gone completely.  If you do suffer from frequent acne or breakouts, I highly recommend not only evaluating your diet, but looking into PCOS and a hormone imbalance.   Cosmetic ProceduresI’ve never had a cosmetic procedure/botox/plastic surgery on my face but I am totally open to it if I feel the need someday.  I would absolutely get botox in my forehead since I have a ton of expression in my forehead when I talk!  I’ll share the experience if and when I do because I think it’s all quite fascinating.  My girlfriend who is 35 and has gorgeous skin, uses the Nuface device religiously. It’s an at home system/device that is clinically proven to reduce wrinkles, tighten and tone – so a great option if you don’t want to go the cosmetic route. MakeupI have always used Giorgio Armani foundation in shade 6.5, and recently added the Cle de Beaute concealer into my routine which helps tremendously with dark circles.  I set my face with the Laura Mercier translucent powder (also adore this Chanel one) and use the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter on my cheekbones. Recently, I tried the Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush which is soooooo pretty on.  It blends beautifully and really makes your skin pop!!! I hope you learned a few things from this post :)  I will add and update things as I try them too!  This weeks Wellness Wednesday giveaway is 10 of my favorite skincare products worth over $1000.  To enter this giveaway; follow me on Instagram and like/comment on 3 of my photos, follow me on Youtube, subscribe to my newsletter, and leave me a comment below telling me your holy grail skincare product!  Winner will be emailed directly this Friday at 6PM PST!

Summer Beauty Must Haves

Happy Friday!  I hope you’ve had a great week!  One of my girlfriends came over yesterday to help me organize and pour through some of the beauty goodies I got sent this past month.  Truth to be told – and I know this sounds silly – but I’m a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to trying new makeup!  I pretty much only know how to do 2 makeup looks and like to stick to using the same 10 or so products that I’ve had for years and years.  I’m a creature of habit and like to “play it safe” with products I know will look good, are easy to use, and don’t give me any sort of skin reaction.  BUT this whole playing it safe thing isn’t working because I’VE BEEN MISSING OUT big time on so many freaking amazing products.  I feel like I’ve been living under a rock to be honest HA!  While I’m not ready to be a full on beauty junkie with a glam room and all… I am having fun experimenting and testing out different bronzers, moisturizers, face masks, mascaras, eyeshadows etc! I wanted to share a few of my tried and true favorites here – they’re the ones that I’ve been using on my IG TV makeup tutorials – AND a few exciting new products that my girlfriend and I LOVED after we tested them!  You guys this is a whole new world for me! ;) Skincare – La Mer eye cream, Sisley cleanser, Indie Lee face oil, Simple makeup wipes, L’Occitane moisturizer, Aerin Rose Face Mist (smells heavenly) and Tata Harper face mask (HOLY CRAP THIS MADE OUR SKIN GLOW FOR 24 HOURS STRAIGHT and completely rejuvenated my clogged pores and any dullness I was having – I am now a Tata believer – the hype is true!!!!!) Skin – Giorgio Armani Foundation in 6.5, Laura Mercier translucent setting powder, Cle de Beaute concealer (worth the $ and love the texture), Bobbi Brown bronzer in Bali Brown, Charlotte Tilbury highlighter Eyes – Charlotte Tilbury mascara, YSL eye palette in Saharienne, Charlotte Tilbury Rock N Kohl eyeliner in Midnight, and a few of you suggested I try the Sisley mascara so I just ordered that Brows – Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Mahogany, Smashbox brow brush, and most recently Hourglass brow gel (I was hesitant about this at first but am excited to play with it more after reading such positive reviews!) Lips – Burt’s Bees vanilla bean chapstick, Hourglass lipstick (you know I never wear lipstick, but I LOVE the texture on this one and the gold super slim packaging it comes in is so sexy – I just feel so cool putting it on LOL!) and of course my go-to lipgloss for 10+ years Mac lipgloss in C-Thru – best.nude.ever. Loved reading about all of your favorite, tried and true beauty products on my latest IG post – AND hearing what goodies you’d want from the $250 GOOP.com giveaway – which by the way if you haven’t already entered, DO IT HERE!  Have a great weekend! Summer Skincare Routine

Ahhh sweet summertime!  My favorite season is almost here :)  I try to be outside as much as possible and schedule in as many trips – even just a roadtrip – at least every other weekend in the summer months!  With all of the heat, change in scenery and dehydrating airplane air. I need a solid skincare routine that is ultra moisturizing. My absolute favorite French beauty brand; L’Occitane, who I have been a devout fan and customer of for years – just sent me their entire Aqua Reotier line and let me tell you – it’s life changing!!!!  First of all, let’s talk scent – I can’t stand anything that’s heavily perfumed. This has such a nice, subtle cotton/fresh air type of scent. Not only does it smell refreshing – every product from the line feels instantly refreshing.  The products are all infused with fresh water from the Reotier springs which run through Provence, and hyaluronic acid. I’ve been keeping their moisturizing mist in my bag at all times and spritz a little morning, noon and night for an extra boost.  It’s perfect to travel with – you can just spritz the second you step off the plane.  Their gel cleanser is gentle enough to use morning and night – my favorite time to use it is right after I take off my makeup to remove excess makeup/impurities.  I used to not use a cleanser after my makeup wipes. Until I learned that wipes don’t actually take off all of your makeup!  So a cleanser is 100% necessary. Before applying my moisturizer, I’ve been using a pea-sized amount of the moisture prep essence which acts as a preliminary layer of moisture.  It allows the moisturizer and/or gel cream to really sink in. Also, it adds to that overall refreshed feeling we all want and crave!  The ultra thirst-quenching gel has thousands of micro-bubbles energize tired skin and make it feel more plump.  It’s non-oily and cooling – ideal for tired, dry skin – yes please!  And now, I saved perhaps, my favorite item for last; the ultra thirst-quenching cream which is so silky smooth, and leaves your skin feeling glowy and fresh.  I really fell in love with the texture – and the fact that a little goes a long way so this product will last you a while.  Plus its under $30 (so you really can’t go wrong!) and extremely travel friendly. If you’re curious about any or all of these products – I suggest getting L’Occitane’s gorgeous collection box which includes the cleanser, cream, gel, and prep essence all for under $70.  Don’t forget you can shop all of my favorite L’Occitane products (like their lavender bubble bath or their divine oil) below! Spring Beauty Must Haves

I had the chance to test out a ton of new beauty products this spring and wanted to share the ones I LOVED with you!  I’ve never really considered myself a makeup junkie – I have said it before, but I have the philosophy with makeup – “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I like to stick to my tried and true products that I know work for me and don’t irritate my skin. Ironically enough though – I get sent hundreds of products to try a month!!!  Usually, I’ll give my sister, neighbors, friends, or mom products that get sent to me, but recently I’ve been more open and curious to try new things.  I’m really glad I have been because I’ve discovered some game changing products.  And now of course I’m kicking myself for being so stubborn for so long because I can’t help but think what I was missing out on haha!  Without further ado, here are 10 products I loved this spring… Indie Lee Face Oil I’ve said it before, but I love this face oil because it goes on light, doesn’t feel sticky or thick, and gives my makeup a nice base.  It’s also incredibly affordable.  I also love The MARA Beauty face oil which is ultra hydrating and great if you’re looking for an oil to relieve super dry skin and double as a moisturizer. RMS Beauty Probiotic I’ve tried my fair share of probiotics and am really liking this one from RMS.  It sold out on Net-a-Porter (which you know is a good sign) and is vegan and gluten free.  RMS also created digestive enzymes which are miracle workers to take when you’re consuming a large or heavy meal.  Enzymes help break down the food in your stomach and prevent bloat.  Oh and FYI with probiotics – I like to rotate or switch mine up every few weeks to constantly rebalance my gut! Sisley Face Mask Ok, I realize this face mask is quite pricey, but I try my fair share of face masks and nothing soaks in like this one.  Your skin feels so plump, hydrated, soft, and silky after.  Just read the reviews on Nordstrom.com and see why I’m obsessed (and have been for 2+ years.) Sephora Collection Lipstick in Tan Lines and Love Love I am not a big lipstick person and have been wearing the same lipgloss (Mac in C-Thru) since high school!!!  But, this Sephora lipstick makes me want to wear lipstick.  It doesn’t have a weird smell/taste, basically feels like you’re wearing nothing, and these two colors combined (Tan Lines and Love Love) are the dreamiest shade of pink/nude!!! Huda Beauty Eyeshadow Palette in Desert Dusk My friend Louise turned me on to using burnt orange and light brown eyeshadows.  She always does the prettiest natural makeup look and inspired me to swap out my darker browns and grey shadows for this palette! Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer I’ve been using a brow brush with Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany to fill my brows in for years, but if I don’t do a lot of eye makeup my brows often end up looking too strong.  This brow definer is easy to use and great for when you want that “no makeup – makeup look.” Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder I added this product into my routine last summer when I was in a wedding and noticed all of the other bridesmaids were using it.  It was AMAZING and completely got rid of my forehead shine so that my skin looked flawless in photos.  This past weekend I took it with me to Seattle and not only used it on my face – but actually used it as a dry shampoo since I didn’t want to wash/redo my hair at Derek’s parent’s house!  It completely got rid of my oily roots and made my loose waves last all weekend – talk about a versatile product!!! Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer OMG – this blowdryer dries my hair SO FREAKING fast.  My hair usually takes FOREVER to dry.  1000% worth the investment – end of story. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen Silky, soft, smooth – and clear sunscreen!  I love this because it doesn’t show up on my skin, or under my makeup and has the best texture.  The only complaint I have is the scent – but I’ll take it since it doesn’t contain synthetic fragrance or oxybenzone. Fresh Coconut Lip Balm Mmmmm this smells so good!  And I love the packaging and results!  I also love their SPF lip balm for hikes and long walks on the beach.Spring Beauty Must HavesSaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave
