5 Ways To Look Your Best In Photos

I’m so excited to share the easy things I do to look my best in photos! I’ve been blogging for 10 years now, and if there is one thing I’ve learned it’s how to get camera ready quickly. These simple beauty hacks will have you looking and feeling more photogenic in minutes! 5 Ways To Look Your Best In Photos Powder Your T-Zone Forehead shine is so not cute! I’m all about dewy, glowy skin, but full blown forehead shine is a no no. Even if you don’t think you look shiny before you leave the house, by the time you’ve moved around outside/start chatting with people/stand under harsh lighting, your forehead is inevitably going to sweat or produce oil. This is why setting powder is a GODSEND and every blogger and model’s beauty secret. I’ve been using this Laura Mercier translucent setting powder available at Walmart Beauty forever and can’t recommend it enough. Take a blush brush or even thick eyeshadow brush and brush the powder all over your forehead and under your eyes. If you don’t have a brush, I’ve even used a tissue or cotton pad in desperate times!!! The powder will completely even out your skin tone and make you look flawless in photos. Don’t put it anywhere else, because you want to keep a pretty glow/little shine on your cheeks. Random – but I’ve actually used this as dry shampoo too when I’m traveling and didn’t want to pack a ton of products! Works like a charm. Apply 3 Coats of Mascara Ok so this is my trick to apply mascara and make your lashes look extra long. Put on your 1st coat like you normally would. Then about 1 minute later, put on your 2nd coat. Put a light coat on your bottom lashes. Then do something else for 10 or so minutes and before you head out the door or are going to take photos, apply a 3rd coat – and really get in there and work the brush hard into your lashes from bottom to top. By the 3rd coat you’ve got a great base so you can really create a ton of volume and get that length! This final 3rd coat will make your eyes POP and optimize that mascara. This L’Oreal mascara has been a go-to of mine for years and you can’t go wrong with the price – get 2 for under $10!!! Lightly Curl Your Hair Subtle curls give your hair volume and depth. I prefer a curl to straight hair any day. If you’re looking for an affordable curling iron, this Hot Tools 1″ iron has held up for almost a decade and costs under $40. I love that it has so many different temperature options so you can really adjust it based on your hair thickness. If you’re interested, I have a mini hair tutorial saved under my IG Hair Highlight! Gloss Those Lips A pretty pink lip gloss really enhances your lips in photos. I LOVE this Julep one in shade All The Feels. It smells so good, gives me just the right amount of color, is super hydrating and stays on. It’s not super goopy/overly glossy which is a must for me!!! This would make a PERFECT stocking stuffer too FYI. Manicured Nails I feel naked without nail polish. And to be honest, I feel unpolished – literally haha! A manicured nail looks so good, and is so easy to do yourself. It’s worth taking the 10 minutes to paint your nails before you get your photo taken. Your hands will show up in the photo, and you’ll look more feminine and put together! When my nails look good I also feel more confident. It’s weird but I really do. In the fall/winter I always use OPI Lincoln Park After Dark, which is a deep purple-ish black color. It’s on sale for under $10 here – and another great stocking stuffer idea. Holiday Beauty Gifts All of these beauty products are available in Walmart’s Beauty section! AND they’re available for 2 day shipping! Walmart’s Beauty section is also full of amazing gift sets for the holidays – and I love that they broke their gift section down by price point making it so easy to find what you need. This is a great makeup organizer for the bathroom counter, or under the sink. This Dolce & Gabbana perfume smells sooooo good (reminds me of summer in Italy!) And this gua sha + jade roller set is a steal for under $20.

Classic Pieces For Winter

Thomas and I took my dad to Waveny Park; a gorgeous estate that’s open to the public year round. A former oil magnate donated his incredible former home along with 300 acres of land to the town of New Canaan years ago, and now people from all over the world get to enjoy it! The property is really something – I just wish we had gone sooner so we could have seen it with all of the vibrant fall leaves! If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth checking out :) Classic Pieces For WinterClassic Wrap CoatIt was a windy and chilly day, so I bundled up in my new grey wrap coat! This coat is so high quality, comes in tons of different colors (eyeing the taupe color!) and it just went on major sale. My sister has owned it for yearssss in black, and I’m so glad that I finally got it in the grey this season. It runs true to size, is really warm, and lays beautifully open or closed. If you’re going to buy 1 coat this season, honestly this should be it. Faux Leather PantsIf you’re looking for a faux leather jean/pant (basically something more structured than a legging) these will be perfect for you. They run true to size, and definitely give a bit after you wear them for a few hours. They’re snug at first, but hug every curve just right so I wouldn’t go up a size. I love the subtle buttons and pocket detail – and they’re under $70! I have to say, leather pants and leggings are my absolute favorite thing to wear in the winter because they make any outfit look cooler and more sophisticated. Cashmere Knit SweaterThis is such a soft cashmere knit sweater. It’s from Bloomingdale’s Aqua line which I own a ton of pieces from. The line is full of classic staple items that are well made and reasonable. This fringe sweater is really fun from them as well, and I love this faux fur vest which I own in black. You would NEVER know it was fur because it feels sooooo luxurious! Gift IdeasIf you’re looking for a few more gift ideas for the holidays… I LOVE these Dior sunnies (splurge, but they’re on sale!), the faux fur vest I mentioned above, this sherpa teddy coat, this leather moto jacket, this pretty v-neck sweater, the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter I swear by, and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Discovery Kit.

Casual Holiday Outfit Ideas

This year we decided to decorate for Christmas way earlier than usual! My dad is in town for the next 2 weeks and I’m so excited to show him around our new area. Thomas and I picked up wreaths at a little garden shop called Town & Country in Wilton. They have a great selection of greenery if you’re nearby! I went a bit overboard and got wreaths for every window outside of the house! I’ve been seeing other people do that in our neighborhood and it just adds so much warmth to the home. Casual Holiday Outfit IdeasFaux Leather LeggingsTo pick up our Christmas greenery, I wore these faux leather leggings. They’ve got a good amount of stretch, but don’t slip down when you sit or walk (which is KEY!) They’re from Nordstrom’s BP line and are under $50. I recommend getting your normal size. They have just the right amount of shine (not too much, not too little where they are matte!) Can you tell I’m picky about my faux leather leggings?! Cozy Thermal HenleyI threw on this cute thermal henley with the leggings. It’s a top I know I’ll be wearing all year long. I love the more cropped/boxy fit. It’s sporty and casual. It would also look really cute over a silky slip dress in the spring with white sneakers! I like to wear it with sweatpants around the house too. Winter BootsThese boots are from a few seasons ago, but I really love these, and you can’t go wrong with these. If you’ve been looking for a tan suede bootie these ones are so classic. More Cute + Casual Pieces For WinterNordstrom carries soooo many incredible brands in house which you can find under their Nordstrom Made section. I wear this nightgown every night. It always sells out, so I buy 2-3 at a time!!! These sweatpants are DIVINE and I live in them pretty much all week long. This fringe cream cardigan is so chic and I can see myself wearing it all shades of ivory/white. Not clothing, but this cheese board is kind of perfect isn’t it?! What To Wear: Holiday Photos

One of the most frequently asked questions I’ve received this holiday season, is “What should I wear for my Christmas card?” And the answer is this – it really depends on your own personal style and surroundings! I wanted to share a few options that would be beautiful this season. What To Wear: Holiday Photos Classic + Traditional For him: I love a crisp white button down or crewneck cashmere sweater with dark jeans or slacks. Depending on the weather a classic coat would look nice over it. I think blazers are a bit too formal in a holiday photo for most men, so I’d skip them. For shoes he could do a loafer, chelsea boot or a clean white or black sneaker. For her: There are a lot of routes you could take. A floral dress in warm, fall colors (I’d leave this one unbuttoned), a romantic, long sleeve silk dress, a midi skirt with a cashmere sweater, a sweater dress, or a silk blouse with a pencil skirt. For shoes, I love a heel because it forces you to stand up straight and accentuates your figure! An open toe heeled sandal works, a pump, or a bootie (depending on what you’re pairing it with.) !function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script'); Modern + Sophisticated For him: A crewneck sweater, a simple black or white henley, or a chambray button down. If he chooses a simple white t-shirt, this cardigan would look great over it. For pants, he could do jeans in black, white, or a darker denim wash. I also love dark navy cords. For shoes, I love a leather sneaker in white, tan or black, a chelsea boot, or a light brown leather loafer. For her: Black or white corduroy pants, black jeans, or faux leather pants with an over the knee boot and pretty cashmere v-neck sweater would look great. Layer with a faux fur vest or elegant lightweight coat. You could also do a blue jean with a black cashmere sweater or blouse and black boots. If you’re wanting to dress up a bit more, a leather pencil skirt with a chunky knit sweater or blouse would look so pretty. !function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script'); Bohemian + Relaxed For him: Same as above (the modern + sophisticated look.) This shawl collar sweater in taupe is really nice as well. And you can’t go wrong with this thicker long sleeve henley. For her: a floral dress in fall colors with a knee high suede boot or bootie depending on the length of the dress. A flouncy white blouse with blue jeans and tan suede booties. A flowy midi skirt like this one, with a v-neck sweater, blouse, or silk cami. With the midi skirt, you can do a knee high boot which will elongate you (a short bootie would cut you off.)
