Casual Holiday Outfit Ideas

This year we decided to decorate for Christmas way earlier than usual! My dad is in town for the next 2 weeks and I’m so excited to show him around our new area. Thomas and I picked up wreaths at a little garden shop called Town & Country in Wilton. They have a great selection of greenery if you’re nearby! I went a bit overboard and got wreaths for every window outside of the house! I’ve been seeing other people do that in our neighborhood and it just adds so much warmth to the home. Casual Holiday Outfit IdeasFaux Leather LeggingsTo pick up our Christmas greenery, I wore these faux leather leggings. They’ve got a good amount of stretch, but don’t slip down when you sit or walk (which is KEY!) They’re from Nordstrom’s BP line and are under $50. I recommend getting your normal size. They have just the right amount of shine (not too much, not too little where they are matte!) Can you tell I’m picky about my faux leather leggings?! Cozy Thermal HenleyI threw on this cute thermal henley with the leggings. It’s a top I know I’ll be wearing all year long. I love the more cropped/boxy fit. It’s sporty and casual. It would also look really cute over a silky slip dress in the spring with white sneakers! I like to wear it with sweatpants around the house too. Winter BootsThese boots are from a few seasons ago, but I really love these, and you can’t go wrong with these. If you’ve been looking for a tan suede bootie these ones are so classic. More Cute + Casual Pieces For WinterNordstrom carries soooo many incredible brands in house which you can find under their Nordstrom Made section. I wear this nightgown every night. It always sells out, so I buy 2-3 at a time!!! These sweatpants are DIVINE and I live in them pretty much all week long. This fringe cream cardigan is so chic and I can see myself wearing it all shades of ivory/white. Not clothing, but this cheese board is kind of perfect isn’t it?! What To Wear: Holiday Photos

One of the most frequently asked questions I’ve received this holiday season, is “What should I wear for my Christmas card?” And the answer is this – it really depends on your own personal style and surroundings! I wanted to share a few options that would be beautiful this season. What To Wear: Holiday Photos Classic + Traditional For him: I love a crisp white button down or crewneck cashmere sweater with dark jeans or slacks. Depending on the weather a classic coat would look nice over it. I think blazers are a bit too formal in a holiday photo for most men, so I’d skip them. For shoes he could do a loafer, chelsea boot or a clean white or black sneaker. For her: There are a lot of routes you could take. A floral dress in warm, fall colors (I’d leave this one unbuttoned), a romantic, long sleeve silk dress, a midi skirt with a cashmere sweater, a sweater dress, or a silk blouse with a pencil skirt. For shoes, I love a heel because it forces you to stand up straight and accentuates your figure! An open toe heeled sandal works, a pump, or a bootie (depending on what you’re pairing it with.) !function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script'); Modern + Sophisticated For him: A crewneck sweater, a simple black or white henley, or a chambray button down. If he chooses a simple white t-shirt, this cardigan would look great over it. For pants, he could do jeans in black, white, or a darker denim wash. I also love dark navy cords. For shoes, I love a leather sneaker in white, tan or black, a chelsea boot, or a light brown leather loafer. For her: Black or white corduroy pants, black jeans, or faux leather pants with an over the knee boot and pretty cashmere v-neck sweater would look great. Layer with a faux fur vest or elegant lightweight coat. You could also do a blue jean with a black cashmere sweater or blouse and black boots. If you’re wanting to dress up a bit more, a leather pencil skirt with a chunky knit sweater or blouse would look so pretty. !function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script'); Bohemian + Relaxed For him: Same as above (the modern + sophisticated look.) This shawl collar sweater in taupe is really nice as well. And you can’t go wrong with this thicker long sleeve henley. For her: a floral dress in fall colors with a knee high suede boot or bootie depending on the length of the dress. A flouncy white blouse with blue jeans and tan suede booties. A flowy midi skirt like this one, with a v-neck sweater, blouse, or silk cami. With the midi skirt, you can do a knee high boot which will elongate you (a short bootie would cut you off.)

Apple Picking

Thomas and I went apple picking the other day and let me tell you, the place we went to was SO darn cute and quintessential New England. The spot was called Silverman’s Farm – and they had the most picturesque shop, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and apple orchard. We picked up a ton of apples and brought them home to make yummy apple-tinis and apple cider donuts. Apple PickingApple Picking OutfitI wore this pinstripe Topshop coat I bought last year and a simple white T-shirt bodysuit from Abercrombie. (And I can’t say enough good things about their bodysuits!) I paired them with my fave L’Agence jeans, and Joie booties, which just got marked down to $100. So talk about a steal!!! Next time I’ll ditch the heeled booties because they discontinued the tram service up to the orchard, and it was quite a hike LOL. Good workout though… Coats Under $200If you’re in the market for fun coats under $200, I also recommend checking out Mango, Abercrombie, and Topshop at Nordstrom. Also really LOVE this taupe wrap coat from Cole Haan that just got marked down for under $200.

Fall Staple Pieces

If I were to create a fall capsule collection, every item I’m wearing here would be included in it. A black wrap coat, a cashmere beanie, a chunky turtleneck, brown boots, classic blue jeans, black sunnies, and a brown leather bag are all staples. These items can be mixed and matched to create countless outfits, and will remain in your wardrobe for years to come. Fall Staple PiecesBlack Wrap CoatI bought this black cashmere coat (sadly now sold out, similar here!) in London 6 years ago and it still looks brand new. It’s incredibly warm, elegant and hands down my favorite black coat. It’s from a brand called Joseph. They make the BEST coats (honestly up there with Max Mara.) My sister has this look alike Cole Haan coat that just went on sale for under $300 and I can attest it’s beautiful in person! Brown BootsThere are SO many great brown boots on the market right now…and they’re all super affordable. I’ve seen these faux leather ones in person, and you’d never believe they’re under $70. These ones are really chic, and you can never go wrong with this pair. Blue JeansI’ve had these Grlfrnd blue jeans forever and wear them with everything. They fit so well, and make your butt look amazinggggg – trust me. They run true to size, and have the perfect amount of stretch. If you’re in between sizes, you could size down (if you like a tighter fit.) Cashmere BeanieYou won’t need another beanie after you order this one. It’s the BEST shape, size, 100% cashmere and a MUST in my fall and winter wardrobe. It’s so warm and stylish. Chunky TurtleneckThis turtleneck is an oldie from J.Crew, but I’m really loving Jenni Kayne’s cashmere turtlenecks this season. Her sweaters are pricey, but great quality. This lighter cropped turtleneck is cute and under $60. Brown Leather BagsThis bag is a vintage Hermes Kelly I got from Vestiaire years ago. It’s definitely an investment, but timeless. A few brown leather bags that I love and can be worn year round are…this Staud one, this Tory Burch one, this Mark Cross box bag, and this Aerin weekender.
