Summer Skincare Routine

With the severe change of weather in the summer – hello heat and humidity! – you really want to be mindful of what skincare products you’re using each season. For example, in the winter, I’ll use a thicker, heavier face cream, while in the summer I’ll use a lighter one because I don’t need it – and also, I break out from the combo of heat + a heavy cream. Today, I’m sharing which products I use during the summer! Summer Skincare Routine Exfoliator If you’ve been following me for a while, you know the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is one of my holy grail products. I’m obsessed and have been using it for almost 10 years now! It’s soooo gentle, but so effective. It’s a rice based powder that you pour into your hand (about 1/2 a teaspoon), then wet and rub together, to create a paste. You gently massage it all over your face (really get that nose area!) and wash off. I do this two times a week in the shower and it keeps my skin bright, smooth and even. It’s gentle enough to use everyday if needed! Moisturizer After you exfoliate and/or cleanse, apply this dreamy, sheer moisturizer. It’s called Active Moist and contains Silk Amino Acids which gives it the amazing texture. I like to apply it right after I get out of the shower, or splash my face with cold water in the morning, because it absorbs best when my skin is slightly damp. I bring it all the way down to my neck area as well. What’s great about this moisturizer is it’s ideal for summer – it’s so light and sheer. SPF I am VERY picky about my SPF. Most SPF makes me break out. The Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense passes the test. It’s invisible just like the name says, weightless, and blends beautifully into your skin. I LOVE that it also protects against blue light that comes from our phones and computer screens! It’s packed with Green Tea Antioxidant so it feels really nourishing and is also great for sensitive skin. I apply this right over my moisturizer in the morning, and reapply as needed throughout the day. Don’t forget to get your neck too! Free Exfoliator! I’m so excited because for the next 24 hours only – Dermalogica is offering a FULL size of my favorite exfoliator, the Daily Microfoliant (a $59 value), for FREE when you spend $100 on Dermalogica.com. Simply use code: KATSUMMER at checkout. If you haven’t tried the Daily Microfoliant already, now is the perfect time. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Hydrangeas in July

The hydrangeas in Thomas’ yard are in full bloom!  We cut a bunch to put in the kitchen and they always make me smile when I walk by them.  Hydrangeas always remind me of summer. Perfect White Dress For Summer I’ve been enjoying spending so much time at home and in the yard.  On a typical day, you’ll find me in an easy dress like this one, which is under $20!  I love the subtle shoulder tie detail, and the breathable, soft material it’s made of.  It’s fully lined so it’s not see through which is ideal!  It hits just below my shin and runs true to size, but if you’re in between sizes, you could absolutely size down.  It’s one of the many dresses I’ve ordered from Walmart Fashion’s dress section.  This style comes in this white color, a beautiful ivory shade, a nice blue color, and olive green. Summer Dresses Under $20 Since we’re in the yard so much – finding dresses that are cute, casual, and affordable is key!  I don’t have to worry about Charlie getting his paws all over me, or spilling food from a BBQ.  I also ordered this sweet black eyelet dress (I tucked in the straps and made it strapless!), and this floral wrap dress from Walmart Fashion.  The black eyelet dress looks great with gold jewelry, brown sandals and a straw tote.  The floral wrap dress is the perfect day to night option and can easily be dressed up with a wedge or heels.  It also comes in 3 other prints! Shop more summery pieces from Walmart Fashion below! Time and Tru dress (under $20!)

Swimsuits I Love

It’s officially swimsuit season! I wanted to share some of my favorite brands + styles with you in case you’re looking for a new suit. I typically only buy 1-2 suits per season since my suits from past seasons have held up beautifully! Favorite Swimsuit Brands Throughout the years I’ve owned suits from several different brands. The brands listed below are ones that are great quality and really flatter any body type. Bond-Eye These suits are made of such a cool thick, crinkled material that stretches to fit any body type. They’re ridiculously comfortable! I bought their black one piece (which can also be worn as a top under jeans or skirts) and red two piece last year in Santa Barbara. Loving their pink bikini and red one piece as well. Hunza G Hunza G is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s favorite swimsuit brand. It’s made of an identical material to Bond-Eye – it’s thick, crinkly and stretchy. Swooning over this beige one piece! Marysia Marysia’s scallop swimsuit is timeless. I have the strapless version in black and white. Missoni It doesn’t get more La Dolce Vita than a Missoni swimsuit! I have several and although they aren’t ideal for swimming in since they’re made of a delicate knit, they’re perfect for sunbathing or backyard BBQs. FYI their suits run small, so always size up. Eres Eres suits are made of the softest material! I have one that I bought in Capri years ago and it still looks brand new. This one piece is super sexy and flattering. Vitamin A I have several Vitamin A suits and love all of their cuts and styles. They have tons of different options to mix and match. L*Space Another swim company that I have bought several suits from over the years. This white one is going into my shopping cart! Tory Burch I’ve never personally owned a Tory suit, but I have many friends who have and they rave about the quality and fit. They love that the suits aren’t too sexy and offer great coverage, but also still look young/fun. More Swimsuits I Love below!

DIY Hat Wall

I’ve always had an affinity for hats! Particularly wide brim straw hats. Though beautiful, they are a total b*tch to store LOL – they’re huge and take up a ton of space! So, over the years – I decided rather than storing them on a shelf somewhere, I would hang them as art around my home! Here’s exactly how to create a hat wall… DIY Hat Wall In order to create a hat wall, you need to buy these hat hooks. Do yourself a favor and do not order cheap adhesive hat hooks advertised on Amazon. I made that epic mistake in my NYC apartment and it ripped the plaster and paint off the wall when I removed them! These simple white metal hat hooks are PERFECT for any size hat and very easy to add or remove. Where to Hang Your Hats I love the look of hats in a cluster or straight line along one side of an entryway wall, bedroom wall, office, or hallway. Even in a bathroom could be fun if you have a big empty wall! I would limit hanging hats in a home to a max of 2 walls total so it doesn’t look cluttered. When you’re ready to create the layout, gently rest the hats you like together on the ground. This will give you a sense of which shapes, sizes and colors pair well, and how far you’ll need to space out your hooks. Once you’ve done this, you can start hanging the hooks one by one, adjusting as needed. TBH I’ve eye-balled every hat wall I’ve ever created and they’ve turned out just fine, but you can always use a pencil and measuring tape as well. You can absolutely overlap your hats rather than perfectly spacing them out – I think the overlapped look is really fun somewhere like a beach house. Choosing Hats While you don’t have to have all of your hats be the exact same color, I would recommend sticking to a general color scheme and overall theme. For example, I wouldn’t hang a dark winter felt hat alongside a summery straw fedora. If you’re looking for hats to wear and hang – I recommend this one for under $20 (just remove the suede cord), this one from Janessa Leone (legit all of her hats are incredible), and this one from Lovely Bird. Hats from top going clockwise: Janessa Leone c/o, Lovely Bird, Janessa Leone c/o, Janessa Leone, Rag & Bone (sold out)
